How to choose a leak removal service: questions to ask first

Ask every takedown service the same questions before you sign up: what you pay, whether it renews and how you cancel, what its refund terms are, who decides what goes out under your name, what is included, and whose name is on each notice. Then read each service's own pages, including ours.

When copies of your work turn up where you never put them, it is tempting to sign up with the first takedown service you see. A few questions first can save money and stress. For each, this guide shows what we saw on several services' own pricing and terms pages on October 26, 2026, and LeakVoid's own answer. We describe typical services without naming any, because the point is the questions, not a ranking.

LeakVoid is a takedown service too, so we have a stake in your choice. Read each service's own pages, including ours, before you decide.

1. What will I pay, and does the price change?

Ask: What is the monthly price? Does it go up with each stage name? Are features split across tiers?

What we saw: The services we read all sell monthly plans, and listed prices vary widely between services and between plans at one service. Some discount the first month, then charge the full price. Some charge extra for each stage name you add. Several split features across tiers.

LeakVoid's answer: One plan at $49 a month, plus any sales tax that applies where you live. No setup fee, no contract. There is no annual plan at launch: monthly only. Check our pricing page for current plan limits.

2. Will it renew, and how do I cancel?

Ask: Does it renew on its own? Can a trial turn into a paid plan? How do I cancel?

What we saw: Some plans renew until you cancel, and at least one trial we read turns into a paid plan unless you cancel before it ends. Several let you cancel from a dashboard and keep service to the end of the paid period.

LeakVoid's answer: Yes, it renews. Our pricing page says: "Once you subscribe, it renews every month until you cancel online at Account, Billing." You cancel online at Account > Billing > Cancel subscription, with no call, chat or email needed. Your service continues to the end of the month you paid for, and you are not charged again. There is no free trial unless we say so on the checkout page.

3. Can I get my money back?

Ask: Is a monthly payment refundable? On what terms?

What we saw: Several services' terms or pricing pages say monthly plans are not refunded, or only at the company's discretion. Some refund only annual plans, within a short window.

LeakVoid's answer, word for word from our pricing page: "Latest-month refund guarantee. See terms"

4. Who decides what gets sent, and how long does each step take?

Ask: Does anything go out under my name before I see it? Can I skip a link? Who controls each step?

What we saw: Some services send notices without asking you first. For some creators that is the point: less work. Some say how often they look for new copies, and that timing differs by plan. Several services' own pages say they cannot promise that content will be removed.

LeakVoid's answer: You send us links to copies of your work posted without your permission. We draft the takedown notices. You review them, untick any you want to skip, and sign the ones you want sent. Then LeakVoid sends them and shows whether each link is still up. Nothing is sent before you sign. Sites that only take their own web form get a ready-to-file packet instead, for you to file.

So the pace depends partly on you: a notice waits until you sign it. That is more work than a hands-off service. We make no promise about timing or results. Websites, hosts and platforms make their own decisions.

5. What is included, and what do I do myself?

Ask: Who looks for copies? Who handles Google, fake accounts and counter-notices?

What we saw: Several services say they look for copies for you and include Google delisting. Some add social media and fake account removal, in some cases only on higher plans.

LeakVoid's answer: LeakVoid does not look for copies for you. It works only from the links you send. The one plan includes:

  • Notices drafted for every link you send, sent once you sign
  • Removal requests for Google prepared for you, with step-by-step help submitting them yourself on Google's own form
  • Reports of fake accounts prepared for you to file yourself
  • Counter-notices: we pause that item, forward it to you and never resend on our own
  • Your allow list and official pages left alone

If you want a service that looks for copies and files everything for you, LeakVoid is not built that way.

6. Whose name is on the notice, and what does the service need from me?

Ask: Whose name goes on each notice? Could it become public? Does the service want my logins, my ID or files of my work?

What we saw: Some services say your legal name stays off the notices, and at least one says it files them under its own company name. Several list facial recognition. At least one service's terms let you hand over the login details for your platform accounts. Some ask for a government ID, or a photo of the creator holding a sign, as one way to confirm who you are.

LeakVoid's answer: Notices go out under your signature, sent by us. You choose the name you sign with, and the owner name shown on notices: your stage name, a business name or your legal name. Our terms say each notice carries the name you sign with and our contact details, not your home address, phone or personal email.

The name you sign with may become public: Google, for example, shares copies of many copyright notices with the Lumen database. Some platforms require the signer's legal name; if one will not accept a stage name, we ask you first. Your legal name, address, phone or ID never go to a platform without your yes, unless the law requires it. We never ask for your password. You do not upload image or video files to us, and we do not use facial recognition.

A short checklist

Before you pay any service, write down:

  1. The full monthly price, plus tax.
  2. How it renews, and how you cancel.
  3. The refund terms, in its own words.
  4. Whether notices go out before you see them, and whose name they carry.
  5. What it asks you to hand over: logins, ID or files.
  6. Any promise of removal or a fixed timeframe. No service controls what other sites do.

Doing it yourself

You don't need any service to send a notice. Our free guides cover how to send a DMCA takedown notice, what a counter-notice means and what to do when your content is leaked.
